Professional Background:
As a young man, Ghalibaf rushed to defend his country to confront the aggression by Saddam Hussein in 1980. Soon he was promoted as senior commander, fighting the occupying forces during the 8 years of imposed war. Once the war was over, he embarked on a major reconstruction drive. When President Mohammad Khatami came to power in 1997,Ghalibaf was appointed as Commander of the Disciplinary Force by Supreme Leader. And later, as president representative in the Goods and Exchange Smuggling Commission In 2005. He left the Disciplinary Force and ran for presidential election later that year. He was elected by the Tehran City Council as the mayor of the capital in 2006. As an airline plane, he flies Air bus passenger planes too. All these have not kept Dr Ghalibaf from leading a prolific academic life as well. He began teaching in the Tehran University in 2003, where he is focusing his studies on the geopolitics of the Middle East. In fact, his first book on local governments in Iran is just out, while his two books is coming out soon on geopolitics. As an associate professor of the political geography, he has published his extensive research in these fields in the form of more than 16 articles. A third academic area he is devoting his energy and attention to, is advising and supervising graduate students with their PhD dissertations and MA theses.
